Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House)
After the Republic of Korea was officially established on Aug. 15, 1948, President Rhee Syngman and his wife moved to Gyeongmudae from their private residence Ihwajang to establish the Korean Presidential compound.
The name "Cheong Wa Dae" was chosen given the structure's blue-tiled roof after the inauguration of President Yun Bo-seon, the country's fourth head of state.
